Died on:   12 March 1917
Aged: 32
George Albert MORGAN

George Morgan, son of James and Harriett Morgan, was born on 28 December 1884 at Great Marlow near High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. He was the fourth of five children.

He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Seaman at HMS IMPREGNABLE on 21 September 1900. He was rated Boy 1st Class on 13 June 1901, Ordinary Seaman on 28 December 1902. He married Maud Carne at Hastings in early 1903 and it would appear that married life suited him as he was recorded as having been a deserter from 1 August until 13 November of that year. He spent 14 days in detention for his pains.

After serving in HMS Ships JUNO and ALBION he was rated Able Seaman on 24 December 1904 and Leading Seaman on 1 August 1912. He was rated Petty Officer on 1 October 1916.

He lived at Devonport with Maud and their three children and is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial panel 20 and the E49 memorial at Baltasound, Unst in the Shetlands.
