Edwin Albert Taylor Bagg, was born at Thames Ditton Surrey on 28 February 1879, the son of John and Mildred Bagg, of Ember Court, East Molesey, Surrey.

In 1895 he joined the Royal Navy and was sent to Naval training ship HMS IMPREGNABLE at Devonport.  In October of that year Edwin joined the cruiser HMS ARCHER on the China Station, during which time he advanced to the rank of Able Seaman and returned to England in January 1898.  Over the next five years he qualified as a Seaman Gunner First Class and then as a Torpedoman.

By March 1904 he had reached the rank of Petty Officer First Class and in 1909 he volunteered for service in submarines. When serving in E18 Edwin was rated Acting Chief Petty Officer and was acting Coxswain when the boat was lost with all hands.  He left a widow, Ethel M. Bagg, of 4, Victoria Place, Gosport, Hampshire.
