HMS P33 (1941 - 1941)

P33

HMS P33 (Lt R D Whiteway-Wilkinson) (outboard submarine in photograph) sailed from Malta on 6 August 1941 to patrol off the coast of North Africa. The Italians claimed that P33 may have been sunk by Partenope off Benghazi on 12 August after an Italian convoy had been attacked by a submarine. However, the attack on the convoy was conducted by HMS TORBAY, not P33, which was unlikely to have been so far out of position. HMS P33 was listed as missing on 20 August 1941, probably mined off Tripoli. There were no survivors.
