HMS ODIN (1928 - 1940)
HMS ODIN (Lt Cdr K M Woods) was attacked by the Italian destroyer Strale in the Gulf of Taranto on 14 June 1940. Strale sighted ODIN on the surface on the night of 13 June. She attacked with a torpedo and gunfire and observed ODIN diving. Passing over the diving position, Strale dropped a pattern of depth charges.
About two and half hours after this attack, the Italian torpedo boat Baleno sighted ODIN surfacing. The submarine dived again when she saw Baleno and Baleno dropped depth charges on the diving datum. The submarine was lost with all hands.
