HMS G9 (1916 - 1917)

G9

While on surface on 16 September 1917, HMS G9 (Lt Cdr The Hon B P Cary) fired a torpedo at the destroyer HMS PASLEY, mistaking her for a German U-boat. The torpedo failed to explode but the destroyer counterattacked and rammed and sank the submarine. The Commanding Officer of HMS PASLEY had received no information regarding the presence of British submarines in this area. The Board of Inquiry attributed no blame to PASLEY.

There was one survivor - Stoker W DRAKE - who was rescued by PASLEY.
